The Lord of the Rings

I began my journey with the Lord of the Rings series with watching the episode I movie, directed by Peter Jackson. Peter took a total of three episodes, generally called the Lord of the Rings trilogy:

  • The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

I tend to enjoy the visual and sound effects in the cinema, so I had been binge-watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy for consecutive three years.

Although it is one of the classics, but in the years while J.R.R. Tolkien was writing them, they were very innovative. Many of the familiar races in today's fantasy worlds are affected to certain extent by the Lord of the Rings, such as halflings (or hobbits), elves, dwarves, half-elves, orcs, and dragons.

The famous example is the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, the first commercial desktop role-playing game that was active in the 1970s, although the inventors did not agree that the game was directly Inspired by the Lord of the Rings, but the Lord of the Rings has a marketing effect that drives people to boost it.

Since then, there have been a lot of fantasy games, film and television works that quoted the ethnic characters in the Lord of the Ring, so today we are no stranger to them.

The main characters of the Lord of the Rings movie are four Hobbits: Frodo Gaggins, Samwise Gamgee(Sam), Meriadoc Brandybuck(Merry), Peregrine Took(Pippin), and the partners with good fellowship: Aragorn, Legolas the Flf, Gimli the Dwarf, and Gandalf, who changed from a gray robe wizard to a white robe wizard.

In the movie, history of Sauron and the Ring is mentioned briefly. The main content revolves around how to take the Ring to its forged site, the Fire of Mount Doom in Mordor, and destroy it. In order to achieve the task, the main characters formed the "The Company of the Ring", which was originally planned to achieve their mission in one team, and then evolved into a combination of different occasions with separate smaller teams, and finally completed the mission in a thousand hardships.

If you have seen the "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King", you probably would never forget that at the wedding of King Aragorn, everyone pays tribute to the four Hobbits - the biggest contributors of the journey to destroy the Ring.

Frodo originally grew up in the Shire, living a life of self-sufficiency. In order to save the Middle-earth, without much combat power, they were willing to take risks and left their comfortable life. With wisdom, courage and extraordinary consensus between their partners, they helped one another, and finally they were able to join forces to successfully throw the Ring into the Fire of Mount Doom.

I personally thought this was a masterpiece of teamwork. After the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, the northern rangers, such as Aragorn, won the battle, and their eyes turned to Frodo and Sam, who had already penetrated the Mordor area. Only because they were sure that the two were still alive, the people lead by Aragorn went to the black gate of Mordor with the few remaining Gondor-Lohan allies after the battle, desperately out-numbered. They amazing fought Sauron’s army and tried to divert Sauron’s attention from the Mount Doom. As a result, Frodo and Sam were created their chance to enter the fire of Mount Doom in time.

In addition, it is also the best embodiment of willpower over the combat power. Frodo was the only member of "The Company of the Ring" who was able to resist against the power of the Ring, so he was the best person to carry the Ring. However, he did not retreat because of the unimaginable burden and the peculiar obstacles on his way. He finally succeeded in destroying the Ring when he was almost killed in volcanic lava. The willpower is obviously important.

However, because Gandalf, a good companion, summoned the eagles to save Frodo and Sam, the mission was finally fulfilled. A good team has members with different expertise, and they must be good at their own expertise, capable of being overriding others and complementing others. If the team members are too similar, they do not form a good team. Of course, whether these combinations can form a good team also depends on the goals that you want to achieve. It is a prerequisite to have a common goal. The goal of the "The Company of the Ring" was obviously to "destroy the Ring and save the Middle-earth."

These are my personal takes from movies of the Lord of the Rings, I hope to share what I have learned here. Because they are simply personal takes, if you do not agree with any of them, I will be glad accept it.
